THE Herald Greenacres Miss Port Elizabeth 2009 Di-Anne Qoto has helped fulfill a young girl’s dream to one day have long, flowing hair.
Kayleesha, of George, has the life- threatening illness retinoblastoma (cancer of the eye), and her dream has always been to have long hair.
Reach for a Dream’s Kayleesha, who lives with her grandmother Lena, arrived in Port Elizabeth on Monday and received the hair at a special event worthy of a princess. It was held at the Garden Lovers Restaurant in Kragga Kamma and the highlight was when Front Cover gave Kayleesha a long, flowing black wig.
Reach for a Dream branch manager Inge Human said: “Kayleesha has always wanted long hair, just like a princess. To see her smile when she saw the hair was so special. She would not stop looking in the mirror.
“Everything has been a new experience for her. She has never been to a hotel and also loved the trip to Greenacres. It’s been a day for her to remember. She’s a queen and now she’s meeting another beauty queen.”
Qoto said: “It is a wonderful experience to see someone’s dream come true. When a dream does come true, it makes a difference to the family and not just the child.”
Kayleesha and Lena were sponsored by Abedare Cables and City Lodge Hotel to spend the special day in Port Elizabeth.
Reach for a Dream events co-ordinator Michelle Van Huyssteen said: “We have given Kayleesha some joy and hope. It means so much”.
