Johannesburg – Cricket South Africa (CSA) marked World Aids Day yesterday by re-affirming its commitment to help make a difference in the fight against HIV/Aids.
CSA president Dr Mtutuzeli Nyoka said: “The fight against HIV/Aids has gradually been gaining momentum over the years and it is heartening to see individuals and organisations rally behind this important cause. Sport has the potential to do good for our communities.”
CSA chief executive Gerald Majola said: “Our cricketers, led by Graeme Smith, are strong ambassadors in the fight against HIV/Aids and as Cricket South Africa, we are mindful of the role we can play in educating the public.”
South African captain Smith said: “I hope that cricketers around the world act as leaders within their communities to think about important life skills and necessary steps towards HIV prevention.”
On Sunday, the Proteas and the England team wore red ribbons during the 4th ODI. Next week Proteas cricketers will take time out of their training schedule to show their support for the fight against HIV/Aids. – Sapa
