TWO men posing as customers robbed Pep Stores at Port Elizabeth’s Greenacres shopping centre yesterday morning.
Police spokesman Captain Sandra Janse van Rensburg said the robbers had entered the shop at different times and only one of them had had a firearm.
“The first man entered the shop at 9am and went to the parcel counter, pretending to hand in a bag,” she said.
“Moments later another man entered the shop and held the two women behind the counter at gunpoint.” The men ushered the women to the back of the shop and demanded that they open the safe.
“The panicked staff handed over the money and their cellphones.
“There were people in the shop at the time who said they had not even known it was being robbed,” Janse van Rensburg said.
Witnesses said a getaway car with a third man inside had been parked in front of the Pep Stores entrance.
