THIS week the cinemas are changing their line-ups tomorrow instead of on Friday, with the two new releases both being comedies suitable for all ages.

Alvin and the Chipmunks: The Squeakquel: In this follow-up to the half-live action, half-animated adventure, Alvin and his friends Theodore and Simon (voiced by Justin Long, Jesse McCartney and Matthew Gray Gubler) return to school, where they enter a battle of the bands, competing against the Chipettes, Brittany, Eleanor and Jeanette (Anna Faris, Christina Applegate and Amy Poehler).

The all-ages film runs for 91 minutes and is directed by Betty Thomas.

It is opening at The Boardwalk, Walmer Park, The Bridge and the Garden Route Mall).

Rainbow Skellums: Andre Scholtz of Panic Mechanic and You Must be Joking fame, produces and directs this Candid Camera style comedy, featuring Louw Venter, Alexa Stachan and Kevin Ehrenriech.

The film runs for 94 minutes and is opening at Walmer Park, The Bridge and the Garden Route Mall.

Uptown Theatres will only change its films on Sunday, with the new release being the cookery-themed drama Julie and Julia. Meryl Streep plays celebrity chef Julia Child who was famous in the 1950s and ’60s, while Amy Adams plays Julie Powell, an amateur chef who hopes to cook every recipe in Child’s book over a one-year period to give her material for her blog.

It is directed by Nora Ephron and runs for two hours.
