Greigs loyalties divided By LESLIE LIGHTFOOTCRICKET commentator Tony Greig, 55, visiting with the Australian team, is a man of divided loyalties. His Australian colleagues chaff him unmercifully when Australia plays South Africa, for he was born and raised in Queenstown and played cricket for Border and Eastern Province before settling in England. A more than competent all-rounder, he played 58 Tests for England in the 1970s, 14 times as captain. His career ended abruptly when he started recruiting players for Kerry Packers World Series. He emigrated to Australia as an executive in the Packer organisation and Channel 9 commentator, and is now an Australian citizen. Greigs co-commentators on DStv are Mike Haysman, Brett Proctor, Hylton Ackerman, Pat Symcox, Mike de Villiers, Kotie Grov, Kepler Wessels and Fanie de Villiers In addition to the experienced Barry Richards, Ravi Shastri, Michael Holding, Alan Border, Mike Procter and Faiek Davids, e.tv is introducing former international Roger Telemachus to the joys of commentating. |
