Ex-Bok will miss season

London – Former Springbok stand-off Jannie de Beer will miss the rest of the season with English Premiership side Saracens, the club said yesterday.

De Beer has returned to South Africa for knee reconstruction surgery which could rule him out of rugby until the end of the year.

De Beer is the latest of north London side Saracens high-profile imports to suffer a serious injury.

France full-nack Thomas Castaignede is still battling to overcome an Achilles tendon injury he suffered on international duty almost 18 months ago while caretaker coach and former Australia centre Tim Horan, also had a lengthy spell on the sidelines.

De Beer’s last appearance came in the 48-7 thrashing by champions-elect Leicester at Vicarage Road last month. – Sapa-AFP
