SACP ousts Radebe, Pahad Herald CorrespondentJohannesburg – Public Enterprises Minister Jeff Radebe and Essop Pahad, the Minister in the President’s Office, have been voted out of the central committee of the SA Communist Party. Water Affairs and Forestry Minister Ronnie Kasrils, Local and Provincial Government Minister Sidney Mufamadi and Gauteng Safety and Security MEC Nomvula Mokonyane were voted onto the committee. Mr Radebe and Mr Pahad are seen to be behind the privatisation of state-owned enterprises, which the SACP is opposing. Asked if this would have an impact on the relationship between the SACP and the ANC or President Thabo Mbeki, SACP secretary-general Blade Nzimande said these relations were “not dependent on some form of gate-keeping”. Mr Nzimande said the relationship with Mr Mbeki was through organisational structures and not individuals. Public Service and Administration Minister Geraldine Fraser- Moleketi and Gauteng Premier Mbhazima Shilowa did not stand for re-election. Mr Nzimande, SACP deputy secretary-general Jeremy Cronin and SACP chairman Charles Nqakula were all re-elected to their party positions. The party has Dipuo Mvelase as its new deputy chairman and Phillip Dexter as treasurer.
