Soapie stars travel – for real

By Bob Eveleigh, Entertainment Editor

SOAP opera stars certainly do get around!

Earlier this year, The Bold and the Beautiful’s executive producer, Bradley Bell, for the second year in succession, was invited to send representatives of his family’s two CBS daytime drama hits – the other is the even higher rated The Young and the Restless – to attend the 42nd annual Monte Carlo TV Festival in Monaco.

Last year Ronn Moss and Hunter Tylo were the chosen couple (Moss is particularly popular all over Europe.)

This time it was Adrienne “Amber’’ Frantz and Justin “Rick’’ Torkildsen who flew to Monte Carlo in early July to participate in the week-long series of TV premieres, press interviews, photo shoots and social events along with dozens of other actors, writers, directors and producers from around the world.

In between the hectic media schedule, Adrienne and Justin managed to find some time to bask in the Mediterranean sun and relax at the Café de Paris in Casino Square -- the centre of Monte Carlo and a magnet for celebrities who usually stay at the Hotel de Paris (built in the 19th century).

At one of the TV festival’s glamorous events, Adrienne bumped into her old friend Tori Spelling, from Beverly Hills 90210, and daughter of arch-creator of small screen hits, Aaron Spelling.

Adrienne and Tori were thrilled to have this opportunity to catch up and renew their friendship and Adrienne even invited Tori to squeeze in at The Bold and the Beautiful table.

One of the highlights for Adrienne was when she was seated across from the producer of CSI: Crime Scene Investigation (Carol Mendelsohn) at the closing night gala dinner of the festival.

Justin spent some quality time with his fianceé Bonnie, touring some of the more romantic sights of Monte Carlo.

Justin's most memorable day, however, also happened to be his birthday when he took Prince Albert of Monaco's Wiesmann Roadster for a spin.

Justin, who has a great passion for performance cars, exclaimed that this was probably the best day of his life!

So who wouldn’t want to be a soap star, with glamour trips like these falling into your lap?

Oh, by the way, Peter Bergman and an actress named Michelle Stafford represented The Young and the Restless but the media focus seemed to be more on the B & the B youngsters, who found time to have plenty of fun on the side, if the gallery of photographs of their visit is any indication.

I wonder when South Africa’s Isidingo, 7de Laan and/or Egoli will merit such representative invitations?
