‘Smart’ passports in two years

Cape Town – South Africa would have “smart” passports within two years as the government moved to tighten security around travel documents, home affairs Director-General Barry Gilder said here.

The announcement on Tuesday came a week after National Police Commissioner Jackie Selebi told MPs that a box of fake South African passports had been found in a London house and were believed to be linked to al Qaeda.
