Ramaala race victory the judges decision

HAVING read your article Ramaala wins 16km race in Amsterdam (Herald September 21), I noticed that the finishing times of both Hendrick Ramaala and Bernard Barmasai was 45:59. (This must have been a close race because William Kipsings finished time was 46:00.)

Would it not be correct to say that Ramaala and Barmasai shared the spoils if their times were the same?

John D Tau, Port Elizabeth.

This happens in long-distance races and is acceptable to the athletics world. Judges decide on the winner even though the times may be the same. Sports editor.
