Series channel gets M-Net makeover, new content Satellite TV, by Leon MustonTHE Series Channel (channel 36) has been relaunched under the name M-Net Series this week, and the weekend line-up shows a number of new additions. In the past the channel’s main focus was on older series, but it will now be the first to show certain programmes. Today at 7pm, the first season of the reality dating show Mr Personality starts. It differs from others in its genre in that the men whom the woman is choosing from must all wear masks, meaning that looks will not be a deciding factor in the outcome. Then at 10pm, Sir Richard Branson’s new show, Rebel Billionaire, is a reality job search along the lines of The Apprentice. Branson will take 16 competitors on a fast-paced tour of the world, testing how each handles challenging adventures. Each week one competitor will be left behind on an airport runway as the rest jet off hoping to eventually take over Branson’s job. THE new series tomorrow at 11pm will be the Australian drama Fireflies, focusing on fire-fighters in a rural town called Lost River. In addition to the fires, the brigade has to battle its own dwindling numbers and internal rivalries. Other additions to the channel’s line-up tomorrow include season four of Spin City, season eight of Frasier and season five of Seinfeld. A NEW addition to Channel O’s (channel 87) programming tomorrow will be EMI All Stars, a live popular music programme broadcast from the Song Writers’ Club in Johannesburg. Over the next few weeks performers will include Lebo, Mandoza, the Afro Tenors, Watershed, Ringo, Ntando, Mzwake Mbuli and Jamali. The programme will start at 8pm. BBC Prime (channel 40) also has a couple of options for music fans tomorrow. At midday and 5.30pm, the Top of the Pops 2 special will look back at some of John Lennon’s greatest performances. Then at 9.30pm the same channel screens Placido Domingo – The King of Opera. IF you prefer ballet to opera, Kyknet’s (channel 35) Ouverture at 9.00pm on Sunday will present an original programme by the Houston Ballet Company, preceded by a short documentary explaining its choreography. news
