No lights out, pledges EPRU

THE Eastern Province Rugby Union will take full responsibility for its financial commitment to this year‘s EP Schools teams for the Craven Week tournament in East London.

“We have advised all the schools that we take full responsibility for school projects and specifically the capping ceremony,” said EPRU senior vice-president Anele Pamba yesterday.

The decision will be welcomed by parents and teachers alike after last year‘s fiasco when parents of boys in the EP senior Craven Week side arrived at the EPRU Stadium for the capping ceremony only to find it in darkness.

“We have assured the schools that finances have been set aside for Craven Week and that the capping ceremony will fall under our jurisdiction,” said Pamba.

He also said the union would soon have a chief executive to control its day-to-day affairs.

“We have been working hard ... to put the union back on a solid foundation. We have also been speaking to at least four possible sponsors and, hopefully, by April we will be able to make a positive statement regarding the issue.”
