THE Chevrolet Warriors will have their reserve depth tested when they travel to play England in a 50-over friendly match in Kimberley on Sunday.

The Warriors named a squad of 12 yesterday, which did not include Wayne Parnell, Johan Botha, Lonwabo Tsotsobe or Mark Boucher.

They will all be joining a Proteas’ training camp in Potchefstroom on Friday in preparation for the one-day encounters against Zimbabwe on Sunday and Tuesday.

They have been replaced by Toshiba NMMU1 captain Pite van Biljon, Riaan Jeggels, Darryl Brown and Corbyn Dolley.

Makhaya Ntini is being rested and will not play against England.

Jeggels, Brown and Dolley have all represented the Warriors, but local followers will not know too much about Van Biljon.

The 23-year-old led NMMU to its first national club title in 17 years in September. He is an aggressive middle-order batsman who has played 17 first-class matches for Eastern Province and, previously, Northerns.

The Warriors selectors resisted the urge to pick in-form batsmen Michael Smith and Jon-Jon Smuts as both will be playing in a competitive match for the Eastern Province Amateur team against their Griquas counterparts, starting tomorrow and finishing on Sunday.

Jeggels will open the batting against England with regular Justin Kreusch, while Van Biljon will slot in at No7.

Dolley gets another chance to try and impress with his off-spinners, while Border’s Darryl Brown will perform an all-rounder’s role.

Davy Jacobs returns to captain the side after leading South Africa to victory in the Hong Kong Sixes at the weekend.

This will be an ideal chance for the Warriors management to gauge the strength of their reserve players should one of them be required as the season progresses.

The Warriors have enjoyed some success against international sides already this season.

They featured in two warm-up games ahead of the ICC Champions Trophy, beating New Zealand and losing to Pakistan after a brilliant century by Shoaib Malik.

England were originally due to play the South African Presidents team in Kimberley on Sunday. That team would have been made up of amateur cricketers but, according to Cricket SA, logistical problems rendered that impossible.

The Warriors were chosen to play in the match due to them not having any franchise fixtures this week.

The 12-man Warriors squad is: Riaan Jeggels, Justin Kreusch, Colin Ingram, Arno Jacobs, Davy Jacobs (c), Craig Thyssen, Pite van Biljon, Rusty Theron, Darryl Brown, Andrew Birch, Corbyn Dolley and Siya Ntshona.
