THE Chevrolet Warriors will need to get used to life without their Proteas as they prepare to face the Diamond Eagles in East London tomorrow night.
The teams meet in the first round of the Standard Bank Pro20 with the Warriors still fresh off a victory in the MTN40 final at the same venue last Friday.
But there will be six national team players missing from last week and the Warriors will face a test of their depth.
The players on tour with South Africa in India are Jacques Kallis, Mark Boucher, Ashwell Prince, Johan Botha, Lonwabo Tsotsobe and Wayne Parnell.
Therefore, the Warriors selectors have been forced into making some changes, but at least there is some experience to call on.
Back in come batsmen Arno Jacobs and Jon-Jon Smuts and seam bowler Garnett Kruger.
The other players to be included in the Warriors’ 13- man squad are Craig Thyssen, Lyall Meyer, Corbyn Dolley and Border’s Bevan Bennett, who could make his first appearance for the franchise in almost four years.
The 28-year-old Bennett, who is a forceful right-handed batsman, first played for the Warriors in October 2004 and his last match was in March 2006.
He has been brought into the squad as cover for Thyssen, who faces a late fitness test on a troublesome hamstring. If Thyssen is declared fit, Bennett is expected to carry drinks along with Dolley.
The Warriors squad is: Davy Jacobs (capt), Jon-Jon Smuts, Colin Ingram, Justin Kreusch, Arno Jacobs, Nicky Boje, Craig Thyssen, Bevan Bennett, Rusty Theron, Garnett Kruger, Makhaya Ntini, Lyall Meyer and Corbyn Dolley.
THE Eastern Province team to face Easterns in a CSA Provincial three-day match in a top-of-the-table clash at Axxess DSL St George’s starting today is: Umar Abrahams, Sean Adair, Warren Bell, Andrew Birch, Athi Dyili, Siviwe Gidana, Simon Harmer, Riaan Jeggels, Michael Smith (capt), Kelly Smuts, Michael Price, Brandon Viret and Reece Williams
