TIME TO TORQUE | Hi-Tech Automotive to display pair of rare gems at Eden Classic

More than 200 unique vehicles set to be exhibited at car and motorcycle show in Sedgefield

Some of SA’s rarest cars, including a pair built in Gqeberha, are among the drawcards set to rev up petrolheads at the second annual Eden Classic Car and Motorcycle Show.

More than 200 unique vehicles are set to be on display, with Ferrari being the featured supercar brand, at the show taking place on July 6 at the Scarab Arts & Crafts Village in Sedgefield — all for a good cause.

And the Detroit of Africa intends to make its presence felt through Jimmy Price’s Hi-Tech Automotive, which will be displaying two bespoke built models — the AC Zagato, which was known as a Perana Z-One concept car during its development, and the mid-engined Rossion sports car.

Production of the AC Zagato began in 2009 and 25 were manufactured before production ceased the following year.

It is powered by the 6.2 litre V8 engine that was fitted to the Chevrolet Camaro at that time.

The Rossion was built for a US company as an evolution model derived from the British Noble M400.

A total of 75 were made before the project was moved to the US.

It has a twin turbo 3-litre V6 Ford Duratech engine and a claimed performance of 0-100 km/h in 2.8 seconds and a top speed of 314km/h.

Eden Classic Car Group’s organising committee head, Peter Pretorius, said attendance figures looked set to exceed 2024’s total of about 2,000 adults.

“Last year, at our first show, we featured the Jaguar E-Type and had no less than 10 pristine examples on display.

“We have already received entries for five Ferraris with a spread of models dating from 1993 to 2017.

“The models entered already are a 488 Spider, 360 Modena, 512 TR, F430 Spider and 458 Spider,” Pretorius said.

He said participants who would be displaying their cars hailed from Gqeberha, Cape Town, Pretoria and along the Garden Route.

“We have already secured a good mix of 25 motorcycles for our show, ranging from a 1926 Sunbeam and 1951 Ariel to some of the latest Ducati models.

“We are aiming for a total of about 230 cars and motorcycles to be on display,” Pretorius said.

He said the event was backed by Sanlam Private Wealth and again formed part of the popular annual Knysna Oyster Festival.

Proceeds from the show will go to various charities on the Garden Route.

The organisers hope to improve on the R42,000 that was raised and distributed to worthy causes in 2024.

Other attractions at the show will include a Cape Town-built GSM Flamingo coupe from the early 1960s and two examples of the Puma — a 1974 GT and a 1975 GT 2300.

A variety of Triumphs, Jaguars, Lotuses and Cobras will also be rolling into the sleepy coastal town.

Besides these rarities there will be a host of highly desirable supercars and sports cars from Ferrari, Lamborghini, Porsche and Audi (R8) and limited-production sports cars such as Aston Martin, Morgan, and a Jensen.

Gates will open at 10am on Sunday, July 6. Entry is R70 for adults and free for children under 16.
