The Western Cape is entering its third wave of Covid-19.
This is according to premier Alan Winde, who was addressing media at his weekly digital press conference.
Winde said the province had experienced a 34% increase in active Covid-19 cases weekly.
As of Thursday , the Western Cape had 5,802 active Covid-19 infections, with a total number of 298,501 cases to date and 280,799 recoveries.
“Last night we saw that our hospitals have gone over 1,000 beds of Covid-19 patients.
“The Western Cape is now entering the third wave,” he said.
“We have been in resurgence for many weeks and that sustained increase.”
He said this was concerning and urged members of the public to follow Covid-19 protocols.
This is a developing story.
