Dr Bridgette Gasa is Transnet National Ports Authority’s new portfolio director for mega projects.

She started work on July 15.

Gasa holds a number of qualifications in architecture, business and construction, including a PhD in construction management from Nelson Mandela University.

In 2008 she founded the Elilox Group, which provides services with a special focus on programme and project management as well as infrastructure development.

She was the first woman, and the first African, to be appointed president of the Chartered Institute of Building (CIOB) Africa.

At TNPA, her responsibility will be to provide leadership on flagship infrastructure projects such as the finalisation of the KwaZulu-Natal port master plans and the development of the Durban hub port development programme.

Transnet spokesperson Ayanda Mantshongo said Gasa’s appointment was aligned to the government entity’s goal of delivering all key infrastructure projects on time, and on budget.

“Gasa is a qualified built environment practitioner with more than 27 years of industry experience in economic valuation of mega projects, construction project management, infrastructure development and SMME development,” he said.

“She has also worked in various sectors including agro-processing, eco-tourism, logistics and light manufacturing,  and road infrastructure projects, among others.

“Gasa has led economic development initiatives and formulated sector-enabling policies.

“She has held various leadership roles, and serves as board chair of the Dube trade port special economic zone.”

Gasa’s achievements include sitting on the board of the NMU business school and in 2010 being appointed to the National Planning Commission in the presidency, where she worked on producing a national development plan and development vision statement for SA.
