Refurbishments at the Linton Grange Water Treatment Works have been completed, upping the production rate to 10ML a day.
The plant used to produce between 3ML and 5ML a day.
The refurbishment cost R2m and is one of many projects that are part of the metro’s drought mitigation plan.
Infrastructure and engineering political head Thsonono Buyeye visited the treatment works to officially commission it to start at an increased capacity.
“The work that has been done will also improve the quality of water that is pumped out of the facility,” he said.
“The amount of work that has been done since January is a clear indication that we are overhauling the whole water system to be more efficient and cost-effective with improved capacity.”
