Convicted murderer Oscar Pistorius is in custody at St Albans Correctional Centre.

The disgraced Paralympian has been transferred to Gqeberha to partake in the Department of Correctional Services victim-offender dialogue programme with the parents of his deceased girlfriend, Reeva Steenkamp.

The dialogue with June and Barry Steenkamp forms part of the processes needed ahead of Pistorius being released on parole.

Pistorius, who is serving 13 years and five months in prison after being found guilty of murdering Reeva, has been eligible for parole since July.

June and Barry had been contacted by the department of correctional services in October with the intent to convene a parole hearing, however, arrangements for them to travel to Gauteng could not be finalised.

Oscar has been serving his sentence at the Atteridgeville Correctional Centre in Gauteng.

At this stage, it is uncertain when exactly June and Barry will engage with Pistorius.

The couple had already stated they were willing to engage with Pistorius.

A warden at the St Albans Correctional Centre, who did not want to be named, said preparations were made to accommodate Pretorius at the Medium B section of the prison.

“He arrived late yesterday (Friday) and is temporarily being kept in a single cell far away from everyone else,” the warden said.

Attorney Tania Koen, who represents Steenkamp’s parents, said they were aware that Pretorius had been transferred to the St Albans.

“There will be no further comment,” Koen said.

Department of Correctional Services spokesperson Singabakho Nxumalo earlier said the department had to work out logistical arrangements because Reeva's parents lived in a different province.

Pistorius’s eligibility for parole came after the Supreme Court of Appeal corrected its ruling on his 13½-year sentence, after it emerged that its judgment failed to take into consideration the 506 days he had already served after first being sentenced to five years on October 21, 2014, by judge Thokozile Masipa, who initially found him guilty of culpable homicide.

In 2015, on appeal, the SCA overturned his culpable homicide verdict and convicted him of murder. He was then sentenced to 13 years and five months in prison.

Pistorius has served more than half of his sentence.

Pistorius killed Steenkamp in the early hours of February 14, 2013, when he shot her through the closed bathroom door at his home in Pretoria.

During his trial, Pistorius maintained that he had believed she was an intruder.
