Gqeberha police are on the hunt for several suspects after a spate of murders and attempted murders across the city in the past few days.
The murders were committed in the Gelvandale and Central areas on Saturday, and in Ikamvelihle on Thursday.
On the corners of Parliament and Lawrence Streets in Central, a man was shot dead and a woman wounded by an unknown gunman.
The deceased has been identified as Abongile Mgu, 22.
Police spokesperson Colonel Priscilla Naidu said the incident happened at about 4am on Saturday.
It is believed that Mgu and a group of young adults were standing on the street corners when an unknown man approached them.
An argument ensued which led to a fight when a person in the group slapped the unknown man.
According to Naidu, the man left but he returned minutes later with a gun and started shooting at the group.
The wounded Mgu was shot in the abdomen and died on the way to hospital.
The suspect fled the scene. Police are investigating a case of murder and attempted murder.

In Gelvandale on Saturday, police were called out to a shooting in Stoffel Street at 5.10am.
Upon their arrival, the bodies of Wilfred Botha, 31, and Ricardo Kekana, 32, were found in the street.
Both men were shot in the head.
Naidu said a preliminary investigation revealed the men had been working as car guards and were on their way to work.
The motive for the shooting is unknown.
Ikamvelihle police are searching for at least two suspects who opened fire on a white VW Polo in Koliti Street on Thursday at about 8.40pm.
Police spokesperson Captain Andre Beetge said the driver of the vehicle had pulled into the driveway of a home in the street when two suspects entered the yard and started shooting at the vehicle and its occupants.
The 38-year-old driver and a 29-year-old passenger died at the scene.
Another 35-year-old male was wounded and received medical treatment.
“The suspects fled the scene after the shooting. The motive for the attack is still being investigated,” Beetge said.
The Ikamvelihle police opened a case of murder and attempted murder. The investigation is being led by the Eastern Cape Provincial Organised Crime Investigation Unit (POCI).
