The Kouga municipality has suspended eight officials for selling electricity illegally.
Two of the officials have since resigned.
Mayor Hattingh Bornman condemned the alleged acts of fraud and corruption.
He said maladministration or any dishonest activities will not be tolerated.
“Irregular activities will be investigated and followed up by the application of all remedies available within the full extent of the law, as well as the application of appropriate prevention and detection controls.”
He said any official found guilty will be reported to the police.
Residents who suspect or have witnessed dishonest activities are urged to report these activities to 071-885- 9888.
He said they would remain anonymous and the process treated with confidentiality.
