A middle-aged man has became the latest casualty of the devastating floods which wreaked havoc in Nelson Mandela Bay this week, bringing the death toll to four.
The municipality on Wednesday confirmed that at least three people had died, though The Herald knows of four incidents.
“We can confirm three fatalities,” Nelson Mandela Bay Municipality Disaster Management Centre acting head Thomas Camerson said.
He said the body of a 60-year-old woman was found in a bush in KwaNobuhle on Tuesday.
“This morning [Wednesday], the body of a man, estimated to be about 50 years old, was retrieved from a dam near Vavuso Road in New Brighton,” he said.
In Kwazakhele, a man was electrocuted on Tuesday when he stepped into his waterlogged lounge.
Bukelwa Ndema was also electrocuted on Tuesday morning when she walked out of her flooded shack and into a live electrical wire in Booysen Park’s Vastrap informal settlement.
During the heavy rains in June, 10 people were killed.
