High performance order of the day at Pearson High School

Ahead of its centenary celebrations in 2026, Pearson High School has got the thumbs up for its latest addition to achieving its goal of delivering excellence in all aspects of secondary education.

Ahead of its centenary celebrations in 2026, Pearson High School has got the thumbs up for its latest addition to achieving its goal of delivering excellence in all aspects of secondary education.

The Summerstrand school was granted permission from the education department last week to begin construction of its state-of-the-art high performance indoor cricket centre, which is set to be completed in the second quarter of 2025.

Principal Haldane Pienaar said the centenary project would further enhance the institution’s pristine facilities and provide beneficial training for their talented cricketers.

“We are excited to embark on this journey that will shape the future of our school,” Pienaar said.

“This new facility will allow us to expand our sporting programmes and better serve both our sportsmen and women as well as the greater Pearson school body, all the while continuing to develop a young adult who will be ready to enter the tertiary education or working environment with confidence.”

The indoor centre will comprise of ablution facilities, consisting of two team changing rooms, shower and toilet facilities which will serve the aquatic centre, second AstroTurf and for general use to the school’s almost 1,200 pupils.

The indoor cricket centre will consist of six specialised pitches, each specifically designed to suit the variations of seam and spin bowling.

A state-of-the-art Pitch Vision camera system will be installed to analyse and provide scientific data regarding bowling and batting technique.

This will include bowling speed, pitch maps, ball deviation and beehives detailing bowling areas.

Two analysis rooms will be used to compile the data collected which will be shared with players to ensure improvement in their technique. 

Pienaar said the new building emphasises accessibility and incorporates modern finishes, while creating a welcoming environment that inspires professional sportsmanship.

The project breaks ground on November 15, with the unveiling ceremony scheduled for the second quarter of 2025.

As part of the centenary celebrations, Pearson High School is also planning to host a series of events throughout 2026, its centenary year, culminating in a grand anniversary celebration in April 2026.
