The case against beleaguered Gqeberha firearms dealer Karen Webb took a dramatic turn on Tuesday when a charge of murder was added to the growing list of allegations against her.

Details remain sketchy but it is believed that a firearm allegedly used to commit a murder in the city was traced back to the stock of Webb’s now defunct firearm dealership, Webb’s Arms.

On Tuesday, defence advocate Jason Thysse also came on record for Webb, instructed by attorney Paul Roelofse.

Webb faces a string of charges, including the theft of firearms, fraud and the contravention of the Firearms Control Act relating to the transportation of firearms across provincial borders.

She made a brief appearance alongside her co-accused, Western Cape gunsmith Francois van der Merwe, in the Gqeberha magistrate’s court on Tuesday morning.

Van der Merwe is alleged to have been her accomplice in illegally transporting hundreds of firearms from Gqeberha to Sedgefield.

Their matter, as well as the case against Webb alone, was postponed to March 27.
