At just 22 years of age, Danielle Whitebooi of Windvogel is proving that talent, passion and hard work can open doors to incredible opportunities.
Known to her growing fan base as DJ Dani, she is not only a professional deejay but also a skilled dancer and national karate champion — a multitalented force with the world at her feet.
Currently the resident deejay at Banana Beach in Summerstrand, Whitebooi’s journey in entertainment began with dance.
In 2022, she wowed audiences with a performance at the popular Splash Festival.
This year she returned, not as a dancer, but behind the decks, showcasing her versatility as a performer.
Whitebooi’s social media presence is equally impressive, with more than 141,000 followers on TikTok, 34,000 on Facebook and 32,500 on Instagram.
“I must say, life is treating me well,” she said with a smile.
While juggling her rising career, she is also in her second year of studying towards a teaching degree through Unisa.
Her accomplishments stretch beyond music and dance.
A former netball player, Whitebooi earned both academic and sports bursaries in grade 7 to attend Alexander Road High.
Her passion for karate has led to national recognition.
She trains under shihan Clayton Tom and shihan Warda Tom at Hillside Goju Kai Dojo.
In 2024, she won a gold medal at the national karate championships in Bloemfontein, earning her a place in the SA team for the World Championships in Japan f in August.
Though she’s a self-taught dancer, Whitebooi credits Gqeberha performer Thirston September for encouraging her to pursue dance professionally.
Her deejay journey began under the mentorship of Lyle May.
Her boyfriend and manager, Jaden Sauls, supports her brand while also managing other artists and dancers in Gqeberha.
What sets Whitebooi apart is her commitment to uplifting her community.
“Whenever I perform, I try to include local dancers in my sets, giving them a platform to showcase their talent,” she said.
Each year in May, her birthday month, she hosts a free community festival in Windvogel.
Sponsored by Red Bull, the event features up-and-coming artists, as well as established names such as Unlimited Soul DJ, 21 Promo & Pengi and Saan the Rapper.
“I want to grow the event even bigger next year,” she said.
Throughout her career, Whitebooi has graced stages at major events, including Ebubeleni, Doek on Fleek, Slam City Camp, the All White Picnic in Kariega, Nelson Mandela Bay Countdown and the Red Bull Dance Your Style National Championships.
She has also shared her mixing talents on radio stations such as Bay FM, Tru FM and GoodHope FM.
Despite her rising fame, Whitebooi remains grounded.
“My parents are my biggest supporters.
“They are strict, God-fearing and always keep me on track,” she said.
Grateful for the opportunities she’s had, Whitebooi has some advice for young people.
“Never forget where you come from, and always remember, you can do all things through Christ who strengthens you.”
