A Jeffreys Bay lawyer charged with murder after he allegedly caused a fatal crash while driving under the influence, appeared briefly in the Humansdorp Magistrate’s Court on Thursday afternoon.
The case against Dieter Brandstetter was postponed to July 17 for the record to be typed for the trial.
Brandstetter, 45, was arrested in January 2024 after he allegedly drove his Mercedes-Benz into the vehicle of Dimitreau Bosman-Domingo and her family.
Bosman-Domingo, 58, a teacher at Humansdorp Secondary School, died later as a result of her injuries.
Her husband, Hendrick, and two other family members survived the crash.
The state alleges that Brandstetter, the director of Brandstetter Attorneys, was under the influence of alcohol or drugs at the time.
He faces a further charge of reckless and negligent driving.
Though he maintains his innocence, he has not yet formally pleaded to the charges.
Brandstetter, who has two previous convictions for driving under the influence, is out on bail of R8,000.
