The unmistakable voice behind some of the world’s favourite dance-floor anthems is back in SA — and this time, she is finally gracing Gqeberha with her presence.

American singer-songwriter Robin S, best known for her global hit Show Me Love, will perform on Saturday night at the Fairview Sports Centre.

It is a concert that promises to ignite nostalgia and excitement in equal measure.

The Atlanta-born artist has already wowed audiences in Johannesburg and Cape Town over the past two weeks, but Saturday’s performance marks her first show in Gqeberha — a city she says she is especially looking forward to visiting.

“I am super-excited to visit Gqeberha,” she said.

“The reports I got is that the people of the metro love me and my music. I promise to give them something they will cherish and not forget for years to come.

“This is my third or fourth visit to SA, but the first time I will be performing in Gqeberha. The people of SA are very kind and they only show me love.

“I hear it is the friendly city — and that is all we want in life, isn’t it?”

Robin S has long held a special place in the hearts of Bay fans, who embraced her music in the 1980s when her upbeat, soulful tracks became club staples.

For decades, she has dazzled dance floors around the globe, her high-energy performances earning her the reputation of a true crowd-pleaser.

Now in her 60s, Robin S says her love for the stage and her audience has not dimmed.

“While God gives me the strength, I will continue to perform,” she said.

“At the moment I have a lot of energy and I am very thankful for it. I like to give my audience the best of me.”

Asked what her favourite song was, she said: “There isn’t actually a favourite song I perform — whatever makes the people happy, I give.”

Her message, she said, was simple but powerful.

“Look after yourself and be good to yourself. Spread the message of love and cherish one another.”

Sharing the stage with Robin S will be veteran entertainer Mr Shakes, who has been in the industry for more than 50 years.

For him, Saturday’s performance is about gratitude.

“I cannot wait to say thank you to everybody who supported me through the years,” he said.

“People need each other and we cannot do anything without our fellow human beings.

“I have been in the entertainment industry for more than 50 years and they have been good years.

“I cannot wait to meet Robin S — it is such a privilege for me. My ultimate goal is to say thank you to the people of Gqeberha.”

As her South African tour nears its close, Robin S admits it will be hard to say goodbye to the country.

“It will be with a sad heart that I leave SA next week,” she said.

“The hospitality in this country is outstanding, and I would definitely come back again.”

For the Bay’s longtime fans who have danced to her hits for decades, Saturday night will be more than just a concert — it will be a moment to celebrate an artist whose music has stood the test of time, and who still brings as much passion to the stage today as she did in her earlier years.
