The murder case of Gqeberha businessman Danie de Jager is set to move to trial after several postponements in the magistrate’s court.

The matter, which was previously postponed to April 1 to allow for outstanding investigations, will officially begin on April 14 at the Gqeberha high court.

De Jager, 65, was found dead at his Newton Park home in October last year.

He was allegedly smothered and assaulted with a blunt object in what is believed to have been a staged robbery.

His partner, Estelle le Grange, 57, along with tenants Leeroy Scholtz, 36, and Ankie-Marie Cilliers, 36, remain in custody.

They face charges of conspiracy to commit murder, murder, and robbery with aggravating circumstances. All three have abandoned their bail applications.

Previous delays in the case were due to outstanding forensic and documentary evidence, including DNA results, laboratory reports, witness statements, and medical records.

The case has drawn attention due to repeated postponements, with family members expressing frustration over the pace of proceedings as they await justice.
