Bitou municipality has a new mayor after councillor Dave Swart (DA) was ousted through a vote of no confidence on Friday.
Former speaker and Plett Democratic Congress (PDC) councillor Claude Terblanche was elected the new mayor during the council meeting after receiving seven votes to the six in favour of Swart.
Deputy mayor Mavis Busakwe (AUF) and chief whip Annelise Olivier (DA) were also removed at the meeting.
The DA and Active United Front (AUF) had a combined six seats.
Prior to the meeting, the PDC confirmed it had withdrawn from the DA-led coalition and had joined forces with the ANC-led coalition, securing an even more lucrative position.
The new coalition is made up of the ANC (4), PA, PDC, and Ikhwezi Political Movement (IPM) with a seat each.
IPM's Nokuzola Kolwapi was elected deputy mayor.
This is a developing story.
