Two more ANC members were shot and killed in Knysna, just hours after former Knysna mayor, councillor Aubrey Tsengwa, was gunned down while on his way home.
ANC regional spokesperson Moyisi Magalela confirmed the incident, saying he received a phone call on Thursday evening informing him of the two members who had been shot dead.
The two men were identified as former Knysna Ward 7 councillor Mandla Matiwane and Knysna Codeta Taxi Association chair Mandla Tyololo.
Police spokesperson Brigadier Novela Potelwa said preliminary reports indicated that the two men, aged 47 and 48, were in a vehicle in Bongani when they came under fire at about 9pm on Thursday.
“The provincial serious violent crimes [SVC] detective team that had been investigating another shooting incident in the area that had occurred on Wednesday evening involving a councillor [Tsengwa], were informed.
“The area has since been reinforced.
“Additional SVC detectives are in the area to probe the shooting incidents.
“The motive for both shootings remains the subject of the police investigation.
“Police are also probing whether the two shootings are in any way related,” Potelwa said.
Codeta spokesperson Nceba Enge also confirmed Tyololo’s murder.
“I was informed by members of the taxi association who [were] at the scene in Bongani, that Tyololo, who was with a passenger, was shot.
“Currently I am not sure who the person he was with is, or their relationship and where Tyololo was headed to at the time,” Enge said.
Tyololo had previously been accused of murdering Victor Molosi, who was the Ward 7 councillor at the time.
Molosi was shot outside his home in Concordia on July 23 2018.
Tyololo was charged and tried for conspiracy to commit murder but was acquitted in 2020.
Potelwa said Knysna Western Cape serious violent crimes detectives had launched a manhunt for the perpetrators of Thursday’s shootings.
She said no arrests had been made as yet.
