The third running of the annual Kiwane Resort 14km, presented by BCM Athletics Club, was won by Yanga Malusi of Real Gijimas in 45:48.
It was his third consecutive victory, and 1:01 faster than his win in 2023.
Bulelani Mgubo of Brac finished second in 48:21, 16 seconds faster than when he finished third in 2023.
Chasing hard was Scenery Park’s Thandikhaya Siyongo, who finished a mere 12 seconds adrift.
The women’s race was a repeat of 2023, with Easy Equities Born2Run’s duo of Cindy Nel and Andrea Ranger filling the first two positions.
Nel was 51 seconds faster than in 2023, when she won in 58:31, while Ranger was 1:25 faster with her second-placed 59:32.
In third place was the junior winner, Bukho Breakfast of Brac, in 64:01.
In the age groups, Mgubo was the first 40+ runner, followed by Xolisile Sinkintana of Nedbank in 49:52, andMnonopheli Zunguzane of Omac in third, in 51:49.
Makaya Masumpa of Born2Run won the 50+ category for the umpteenth time in a comfortable 55:57.
Second was Rodney Westgate of Oxford Striders in 59:06, and in third a new name on the podium, Vincent Ntamo of United AC, in 61:08.
There were no surprises in the 60+, with Mzoli Mpalala of Boxer winning in 58:09.
The male juniors were led home by R72 runner, Kuhle Ntlanganiso, in 53:29, with his clubmate Mhle Nkawe second in 58:15 and Bilah Zondo of All Stars third in 60:09.
In the women’s race, Ranger was the first 40-49 age group runner, followed by the R72 AC’s Natalie Janssens from Kidds Beach in 73:04.
Sunel Roux of Nedbank was third in 73:38.
Janet Kieck of Nedbank was the first 50-59-year-old in 73:45, with Omac’s Linda Goduka second and Brac’s Fundiswa Nxeve third.
The leading 60+ runner was Nomveliso Notyesi of Omac.
Sadly, a number of these runners should be in contention for the Border Cross Country team due to be selected shortly but have not met the selection criteria, having missed the Border Championships in Dikeni (Alice) on the same day.
This event, and in many instances the two league races in Ntabozuko (Berlin) and Komani (Queenstown), needed to be run.
