Newly signed Highbury FC player Avela Cezu says the one-week Fifa break has helped his side prepare well for their next Motsepe Foundation Championship league fixture.

The Gqeberha-based side host Orbit College on Saturday at the Madibaz Stadium (3pm).

Highbury are 12th on the log with one point from two matches.

The Yellow Nation opened their league campaign with a 1-1 draw against former PSL side Black Leopards, followed by a 2-1 defeat to Casric Stars in their last fixture.

Coach Kabelo “KB” Sibiya’s troops are dying to taste their first MFC league victory.

Cezu, 29, of Mthatha, believes a win against Orbit on Saturday could just be the fix the team needs to kick-start their winning streak.

The experienced midfielder said his mandate for this season was to see Highbury gain promotion and the only way that could happen was to win games.

“My plans for this season are to help the team get promoted,” Cezu said.

“It’s still early to panic, we played a draw and we lost our second match.

“If we can win the game against Orbit, I believe that could trigger more wins for us.

“We are preparing well for our next fixture, the break also came at the right time, it has really helped us fix where necessary so that we can be ready for Orbit.

“After losing it’s always important to look back and see where we went wrong so this week we are reflecting on our defeat against Casric and fixing our mistakes.”

The former FC Ravens and Chippa United player is aware that playing against Orbit will not be an easy task as their opponents are also looking to score their first three points of the season.

The North West side has only one point to their name after playing to a 1-1 draw against Baroka and losing 2-0 to Hungry Lions.

After losing to Casric, Sibiya said their encounter against Orbit needed to be a morale booster.

“In the previous match, we created a lot of chances, we just need to be calm and convert our chances.

“The Motsepe Foundation Championship League is a game of small margins, you need to cover your chances.

“I believe it’s something we can improve and work on.

“I am proud of the boys’ performance,” the coach said.

“We are still a new team [in the league] and we are still finding our feet.

“We are on the right track. We need one win to boost our confidence.

“Hence the next match is very key and important for us to win to kick-start our season.”
