Highbury head coach Kabelo Sibiya welcomed the away point gained against desperate and struggling Leruma United.
The Gqeberha-based side’s Motsepe Foundation Championship game against Leruma ended in a goalless draw at the Lucas Moripe Stadium in Atteridgeville on Sunday.
In-form Highbury were looking to continue their winning ways in the league after collecting nine points from their three previous fixtures.
Despite not winning, the Yellow Nation remain unbeaten in their last five matches and the draw also saw them keep a clean sheet in four consecutive matches.
Sibiya admitted they were expecting a tough match against Leruma, who are second from the bottom of the log.
Highbury are in 11th position on the log, with 13 points from 11 games.
“I believe we played well, honestly even though it was not the best game for us in terms of how we have been playing lately,” Sibiya said.
“We created some big chances, we missed chances that I think we could have done better but the injury situation also is becoming a problem.
“Mzoxolo Rafani and Mohau Mokate are still injured so it’s becoming a challenge for us.
“We are suffering from injuries but we believe we played well.
“A draw away from home against a team that is desperate for points was always going to be a problem.
“However, I am really happy with the effort we put into the match.
“I understand now why competitive Casric Stars and Cape Town Spurs lost to Leruma at home.
“They are not a bad side, there are a couple of good players and there are good things they are doing in their team. So, I think it’s a good point for us.
“We are unbeaten now in five matches and have kept four clean sheets in a row, so we look forward to the next match against Baroka.”
Highbury play Baroka at the Madibaz Stadium on Friday (3.30pm).
