The popular Plett Arts Festival lived up to its “expect the unexpected” tag line when it was postponed just days before the 10-day, 2021 event that was due to begin on Saturday.
The festival, now in its ninth year — will boast a diverse programme including art of all genres when it continues at a date yet to be announced.
Festival CEO Patty Butterworth released a statement on Tuesday saying the event was being postponed due to SA’s move to adjusted level 4 of the lockdown.
Previously the festival has hosted performers like Mamela Nyamza, Pops Mohammed, Nic Rabinowitz and Richard Nwamba, as well as providing a platform for local artists like baritone Mike Bhayibhile, who, as a result of his performance at the festival in 2020, won a double scholarship to the Berlin Opera Academy.
Festival director Cindy Wilson-Trollip said the jam-packed 2021 programme would have jazz workshops, viticulture and wine-tasting workshops, and visual arts demonstrations in print making, figure drawing and painting techniques, among other activities.
“Outdoor spaces take centre stage at the Plett Arts Festival this year as sunshine becomes the spotlight, the forest becomes the gallery, the ocean becomes the microphone and the beach becomes the paintbrush,” Wilson-Trollip said.
The festival covers music, film, poetry and all manner of arts media.
