Theatre lovers from all walks of life are in for a treat with a retro 1970s-inspired rendition of Shakespeare’s A Midsummer Night’s Dream at The Little Theatre.
Punted as an enchanting experience which promises a groovy infusion of 70s and 80s influences into the timeless classic, A Midsummer Night’s Dream promises to entertain audiences young and old.
Directed by Gemma Barnard with choreography by Nicki Rayepen, audiences can look forward to being transported back in time on various levels.
With a diverse array of local actors, each bringing their unique flair to their respective roles alongside theatre veterans like Vanessa Grebe, who takes the lead as the mesmerising Titania, A Midsummer Night’s Dream promises to be a night like no other.
Due to vandalism and safety risks at the Manville Open Air Theatre, where these plays have been staged for many years, the Port Elizabeth Shakespeare Festival has since handed over the reins to PEMADS.
Centred on the tale of four young lovers who run away to the forest where they encounter Puck, a mischievous and magical creature, the lives of the lovers are thrust into turmoil as both young men fall in love with the same girl.
During their journey Puck also helps his master Oberon, the King of the Faeries, play a trick on the Fairy Queen, Titania.
A Midsummer Night’s Dream runs from September 5 to 16, except Mondays, at the Little Theatre in Central.
Tickets range from R80 for pupils and students, to R120 for adults.
